About the artist: Saskia Pfaeltzer
From 1973 to 1980 renowned artist Saskia Pfaeltzer studied at the ‘Rijksacademie voor Beeldende Kunst in Amsterdam The Netherlands at the faculty Sculpture and the faculty Monumental Painting. Additionally she studied Modern Dance.
From1990 to 2005 she lives on the Netherland Antilles, Sint Maarten and Sint Eustatius. Materials to work with are scares in this region and sending her often large work to The Netherlands is far from easy. Besides the use of locally sourced materials, the influence of the Antilles’ lifestyle is noticeable in her work. As of 2010 she works in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province in China two months every year on a collection of porcelain statues, sculptures, vases, pillars and plates. In recent years Pfaeltzer works a lot with cardboard. Her work can be found in several galleries, public spaces and private collections around the world.
